The oil your engine was approved for, the filter the factory fits, and a service reset done through the diagnostic tool so the car records it, from a shop set up for the programming side of these cars.
Factory tools for eight brands, repairs covered by a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty
Symptoms
Problem
Service message still on after an oil change
Likely cause
Indicator reset skipped, or done through the cluster without updating the record
The fix
Reset through the factory tool with the correct service type
Problem
Oil level warning a few thousand miles after a change
Likely cause
Consumption on a direct-injection engine, or the wrong fill level on an engine with no dipstick
The fix
Level set on the electronic sensor, consumption tracked, leak check
Problem
Engine louder after a cheap oil change
Likely cause
Oil without the approval, or a thinner grade than the engine was designed around
The fix
Repeat the service with the approved oil and a new filter
Problem
Oil on the driveway
Likely cause
Filter housing seal reused, or a leak at the oil filter housing gasket or valve cover
The fix
Seal replaced, the leak traced and quoted separately
Each manufacturer tests oils against its own engines and publishes an approval list: BMW Longlife-01, LL-04 and LL-17FE+, Mercedes 229.5, 229.51 and 229.52, Volkswagen 502 00, 504 00, 507 00 and 508 00, Porsche A40 and C40, and the Jaguar Land Rover specifications that follow the ACEA grades. The approval covers the additive package, the ash content and the shear stability the engine was designed around, which is why a 5W-30 that merely says it is suitable for European cars is not the same thing.
The differences are not academic on these engines. A gasoline particulate filter on a late BMW, Mercedes or VW needs a low-ash oil or it clogs years early. A Porsche flat-six with a long drain interval needs the shear stability the A40 test demands. A VW 508 00 engine is built around a 0W-20 and runs tighter clearances than the 504 00 engines before it. We stock oils by approval, and the approval goes on the invoice.
The engine is drained hot, or extracted where the manufacturer specifies it, and the filter element, housing seals and drain plug washer are replaced with genuine or original-equipment parts. The fill is set to the capacity for the engine code and verified on the electronic level sensor on cars that have no dipstick, which is most BMWs since the mid-2000s and many Mercedes and Audi engines.
With the car connected for the reset, the diagnostic tool runs a vehicle test across every module. That is the quiet advantage of a shop that owns the factory platforms: a stored fault in the transmission, the air suspension or the body controller shows up during a routine visit, months before it becomes a warning on the dash. Findings are reported, not acted on, unless you ask.
The visit ends with the service record written. On BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche with a digital service history the entry goes into the car, where a dealer or a future buyer can read it; on the others the indicator is reset with the correct service type so the next interval counts from the right date.
The manufacturer intervals stretch to 10,000 miles and in some cases further, on the assumption of long drives at steady temperatures. Dallas driving is the opposite: short runs, long idles in heat, stop-and-go on US-75 and I-635. Heat and short trips degrade oil by fuel dilution and oxidation, which is why many owners of turbocharged BMW, Audi and Mercedes engines shorten the interval and see fewer timing chain, VANOS and cam adjuster complaints for it.
We follow the indicator as the maximum, and we tell you when a shorter interval makes sense for your engine and your driving. Direct-injection four-cylinders such as the BMW N20, the VW EA888 and the Mercedes M274 are the engines where it matters most.
BMW and MINI engines with plastic oil filter housings deserve a look at the housing gasket every visit, because it is the most common leak on the N52, N54, N55 and N20 and a cheap fix when caught early. Mercedes M272 and M273 engines are checked for the oil cooler seal weep in the valley. Audi and VW EA888 engines are checked for the PCV valve and the rear main seal, which show up as oil consumption rather than a leak.
Porsche flat-six engines on the 996, 997 and 987 get the filter cut open and inspected for metal and plastic debris, which is the cheapest IMS bearing check that exists and is done at every oil service here. Jaguar and Land Rover V8s and the Ingenium four-cylinders are checked for timing chain noise and the oil level sensor reading, because low oil on those engines ages the tensioners.
The published range is $139–$289. A four-cylinder with a standard filter and a five-quart fill sits at the bottom. Six-cylinders with larger capacities and low-ash approvals sit in the middle. V8s, AMG and M engines, and Porsche flat-sixes with dry-sump capacities of nine quarts and more reach the top. The reset and the module scan are inside the range on every car.
Anything the scan or the underbody look turns up is quoted separately as its own range, with no pressure to approve it during the visit. To book, call or text (817) 765-6604 with the year, model and mileage; the hours are Mon-Fri: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Sat: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Sun: Closed.
Oil is chosen by the manufacturer approval for the engine code and is never substituted with a generic European-car oil; the approval and the quantity are printed on the invoice. Filters and seals are genuine or from the original-equipment supplier that makes them for the brand.
The price moves with capacity, the approval grade (low-ash and 0W-20 approvals cost more per quart) and the filter type. The factory-tool reset and the vehicle test are inside the range and are not billed as a diagnostic.

Questions
Yes. The button sequence turns the message off; it does not record who did the service, with which oil, or on cars with a digital service history, write the entry at all. The tool reset logs the service type and, on BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche, writes the record that a dealer or a buyer later reads.
We use oil with the same approval the dealer is required to use, which is what the engine was tested on. The brand on the bottle may differ; the approval number on the invoice is the thing to compare.
You can, if it carries the approval your engine specifies and the seal is intact; we check the approval before it goes in. The labor and filter price is the same, and the warranty covers the labor and the filter rather than the oil.
Manufacturers call up to a quart per thousand miles acceptable on some direct-injection engines, which is more than most owners expect. We record the level at each service so a change in consumption is visible, and we check the usual causes, the PCV system and the valve stem seals, when it rises.
Yes, when the oil carries the approval and the interval is followed, which is what the invoice documents. Federal law stops a manufacturer from refusing a warranty claim because maintenance was done by an independent shop, as long as the work met the specification.
On every 986, 996, 987 and 997 oil service the filter is cut open and inspected for metal and plastic; the findings are noted on the invoice. It is not a guarantee, but it is the earliest warning the engine gives, and it costs nothing extra.
